In My Mailbox Take 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's in your mailbox? The cat is always watching...

Okay, this time, I just could not stop reserving books at the library. I swear, I'm basically addicted to getting books. That's why I have 21 freaking books. Yeah, addicted. Besides my addiction, let's see what I got this week!

Inside Out (Insider, #1) Inside Out (Insider, #1) Inside Out (Inside Out, #1)

Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7059135-inside-out
Keep Your Head Down.

Don't Get Noticed.
Or Else.
I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? The only neck at risk is my own…until I accidentally start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution.

Outside In (Insider, #2) Outside In (Insider, #2) Outside In (Inside Out, #2)

Outside In by Maria V. Snyder
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8901953-outside-in
Me?

A leader?
Okay, I "did" prove that there's more to Inside than we knew.
That a whole world exists beyond this cube we live in. And finding that led to a major rebellion--between worker scrubs like me and the snobby uppers who rule our world. Make that "ruled." Because of me, we're free. I thought that meant I was off the hook, and could go off on my own again--while still touching base with Riley, of course. He's the one upper I think I can trust. But then we learned that there's outside and then there is "Outside."
And something from Outside wants In.

Sea Glass (Glass, #2) Sea Glass (Glass, #2) Sea Glass (Glass, #2)

Sea Glass by Maria V. Snyder
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6351939-sea-glass
Like the colorful pieces of sea glass washed up on shore, Opal has weathered rough waters and twisting currents. But instead of finding a tranquil eddy, Opal is caught in a riptide. Her unique glass messengers which allow instant communication over vast distances have become a vital part of Sitian society. Once used solely by the Councilors and magicians, other powerful factions are now vying for control. Control of the messengers equals control of Sitia. Unfortunately that also means control of Opal. If that isn’t enough of a problem, Opal’s determination to prove blood magic is still being used is met with strong resistance. The Council doubts her, her mentor doubts her, and even her family is concerned. When her world is turned upside down, she begins to doubt herself. In the end, Opal must decide who to believe, who to trust, and who has control—otherwise she will shatter into a million pieces and be swept out by the tide.

The only thing that keeps her sane and grounded is her relationship with her best friend, Navin Sharma.

When the darkest outcasts of Faerie—the vicious wood elves—abduct Navin, Donna finally has to accept her role in the centuries old war between the humans and the fey. Assisted by Xan, a gorgeous half-fey dropout with secrets of his own, Donna races to save her friend—even if it means betraying everything her parents and the alchemist community fought to the death to protect.

If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?
In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

But her thoughts are interrupted by the clattering of hooves as a galloping horse bursts from the woods, the rider slumped over his mount's neck, impaled by two black-shafted arrows. As the young man lies dying on the road, he tells Karigan that he is a Green Rider, one of the legendary messengers of the king, and that he bears a "life and death" message for King Zachary. He begs Karigan to carry his message, warning her not to read it, and when she reluctantly agrees, he makes her swear on his sword to complete his mission "for love of country." As he bestows upon her the golden winged-horse brooch which is the symbol of his office, he whispers on his dying breath, "Beware the shadow man..."

Karigan's promise changes her life forever. Pursued by unknown assassins, following a path only her horse seems to know, and accompanied by the silent specter of the original messenger, she herself becomes a legendary Green Rider. Caught up in a world of deadly danger and complex magic, compelled by forces she cannot understand, Karigan is hounded by dark beings bent on seeing that the message, and its reluctant carrier, never reach their destination.

  5. John Michael CummingsJune 20, 2012 at 1:51 PM

    Dear Nikki,

I'm an award-winning author with a new book of YA fiction. Ugly To Start With is a series of thirteen interrelated stories about teen life published by West Virginia University Press in November of 2011.

Can I interest you in reviewing it?

My book's only 160 pages short. The writing is easy and open, and all the stories are interconnected--same hero and story arc throughout. It reads like a brisk novel in the form of stories.

If you write me back at johnmcummings@aol.com, I'll send you a PDF of my book.

At this point, my small publisher is out of available review copies, so I hope and politely ask that you consider the PDF. I would be very grateful.

My publisher, I should add, can offer your readers a free excerpt of my book through a link from your blog to my publisher's website:
    http://wvupressonline.com/cummings_ugly_to_start_with_9781935978084

Here’s what Jacob Appel, celebrated author of Dyads and The
Vermin Episode, says about my new collection: "In Ugly to Start With, set in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, Cummings tackles the challenges of boyhood adventure and family conflict in a taut, crystalline style that captures the triumphs and tribulations of small-town life. He has a gift for transcending the particular experiences to his characters to capture the universal truths of human
affection and suffering--emotional truths that the members of his audience will recognize from their own experiences of childhood and adolescence.”

My short stories have appeared in more than seventy-five literary journals, including North American Review, The Kenyon Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, and The Chattahoochee Review. Twice I have been nominated for The Pushcart Prize. My short story "The Scratchboard Project" received an honorable mention in The Best American Short
    Stories 2007.

I am also the author of the nationally acclaimed coming-of-age novel The Night I Freed John Brown (Philomel Books, Penguin Group, 2009),winner of The Paterson Prize for Books for Young Readers (Grades 7-12)and one of ten books recommended by USA TODAY.
