Hey book lovers out there! Today, I have a comtemporary book up for review. Do you like contemporary? Do you like not having any paranormal? Do you like not having to deal with any weirdness and just reliving teenage drama and pain? I'm perfectly fine with contemporary though paranormal is definitely my first choice. But this contemporary book is one you don't want to miss out on.

This book was so sad and uplifting at the same time that it almost made me cry! This book was so real and raw with emotion. I loved it and I would definitely read it again.
Francesca or Frankie has been overcome with grief ever since her little brother, Simon, drowned when she should have been watching him. She has been so filled with sadness since then, blaming herself over her brother's death.
While still burying herself in grief, she finds herself taking care of a boy who actually ends up saving Frankie. This boy acts just like Simon did. They both love frogs, they both love the water, and they both love Frankie. Frankie, which is the boy's name, believes he can swim even though he was never taught before.
Frankie, the girl, believes that Frankie Sky, the boy, holds a piece of Simon's soul within him. She spends the whole book researching reincarnation and learning more and more about Frankie Sky's past. There's so much evidence that Frankie Sky might actually be Simon, but Frankie never knows if she's imagining it or not.
But Frankie Sky isn't the whole purpose of this book. No, the main focus is on Frankie learning to overcome her grief, to accept that what happened in the past will stay in the past. Frankie Sky helps her learn not to blame herself and be free, to fly in the sky.
I loved Frankie Sky so much! He was so full of life and acted just like a little kid, but also like someone wise beyond their years. He was magic with his innocence and his wisdom. He knew just what to say to Frankie and Frankie Sky seemed to be able to make Frankie happier whenever she saw him.
He helped her move on and I loved him for it.
The grief and wonder of reincarnation are woven around everyday things quite beautifully. There isn't a missing seam or a hole anywhere. The problems that Frankie experiences in her life are problems that everyone can experience. What made this book so great was whole read Frankie felt. She felt what others feel. She felt love, betrayal, and loss just like everyone else.
Instead of being immune to the sadness, Frankie wasn't afraid to breakdown and cry. She was real. She felt like an actual person with real, raw feelings. She came alive and so did Frankie Sky.
This book was so touching and amazing. It was all about life's beautiful surprises and how, no matter what is taken from you, it can always be returned. And that grief, no matter how large it is, shrinks little by little by time and by love.

Review on The Lost Boys

Another day, another review. How's everyone doing? Today I have a review for ya'll and the book is about ghosts. Has anyone had an encounter with a ghost? It could be a haunted house, feeling cold for no apparent reason, or seeing something out of the corner of your eye. I've never had a ghost experience, but I have watched Supernatural so I know that most of the time, you don't want one.
I recommend having salt if you live in a haunted house.
Anyway, my blabbering has a reason. I read a book about ghosts, but this wasn't a ghost looking for revenge. Think of Casper.

At one point or another, everyone has hated their name. Most of the time, it's for having the name of Rainbow or Sunshine. Well, Joey might sound like a boy's name, but being named Joe when you're a girl is terrible. But Joe has lived with her name her whole life and that's been the only thing weird about her. Until she moved to a new town and met a boy who never seemed to leave the cemetery. Tristan talked weird, acted oddly, and never let Joe touch him. It was pretty obvious to me, but it took Joe awhile. Basically until she pushed him and she went right through him.
Now, this book isn't an ordinary ghost book. Nope, this book involves the ghost becoming human, reapers, and even Death makes an appearance once or twice. Now, while this may seem confusing, you must factor in a couple of old witches too!
This book was really cute and funny. The beginning had such premise. It sounded so good and it made me want to know more about the witches, to know more about Joey's powers. The middle of the book is where it kind of fell through for me.
You'd think a paranormal book would have a lot of ghost stuff, right? Well, the middle of the book is all fluff basically. There's barely any mention about the supernatural and it's all about Joey and her friends. It's like the book changed to contemporary when all Joey cared about was dances, music, and getting Tristan to love her. It was all about teen angst and such and it kind of got boring after awhile.
But it was still very cute! I love all the side characters, all of Joey's friends. I especially loved Harry and how all the guys made him strip. The banter between everyone was hilarious. This book made me laugh out loud at times, which a book hardly ever makes me do. Even though the book was mostly fluff, I still enjoyed it.
The ending more than made up for the fluff. At first, it was kind of weird and it felt like everything was piling up way too fast, but it all made sense and created an action packed ending. The emotions these characters felt really made this book feel alive.
Even though this book is a pretty lengthy read, it didn't feel long to me at all. It was pretty fast paced and it kept me amused the whole time. I loved the romance between Joey and Tris and it made me awe at times.
The make out scenes (and more) were definitely very exciting.
I loved this book and if it wasn't just for the abundance of fluff, I would have loved this book even more.
I can't wait to read the sequel; I'm practically dying to read it!
If you want hotness overload with some ghosts and witches thrown in, this is definitely your kind of book!

Review on Waiting on the Sidelines

I've been in the mood for a good contemporary romance. The magic, the creatures, the spells, are all very exciting, but sometimes you want a break. Sometimes you just want a normal human-human relationship with drama and parent troubles. I recently read an awesome contemporary novel. Wanna know what it is?

This isn't your average romance book. This book takes place over four years, beginning with Nolan's freshman year at high school, ending with her graduating. While this book was mainly about Nolan's romantic troubles, this book was all about Nolan growing up.
At first, Nolan considered herself an awkward, tomboy who wasn't pretty or girly enough to be liked by guys. Yet she had her friends and the sports that she loves. But over the years, Nolan begins to truly appreciate herself and allows herself to open her heart. She begins to see with new eyes her own beauty, both her outside and her inner beauty.
Nolan's relationship with Reed spans for years. She fell in love with him by just glancing at him for the first time. But it isn't the stupid insta-love that's built on nothing. Nolan has actual feelings for Reed and even though he came off as a jerk as first, her feelings are true and invincible. But Reed didn't see it, not at first.
He just thought of Nolan as a friend at first and Nolan was okay with that, at least, that's what she told herself. But her feelings keep growing and evolving and after years, Reed finally begins to notice her back.
This book was so heartfelt and full of feels. It made me almost cry at several parts and the ending definitely made me release a few tears. Nolan suffers through so much heartbreak, so much pain, but to her, it's all worth it in the end.
As well as dealing with romance, this book focuses on topics like alcohol and bullying. But this book makes things like alcohol the enemy, makes alcohol the reason for so many problems. The author successfully leads the reader away from alcohol. And the bullying just made me want to beat up the bully myself, but Nolan just dealt with it and kept it a secret. But that's what actual people do. They keep their feelings locked inside so no one can ever find them.
This book was just so real. The characters acted like normal people would in every day life. Reed makes several stupid mistakes, he gets jealous, he gets drunk, just like a normal guy does. He dealt with some pretty bad stuff and he tried to deal with this stuff the best he could, even though by doing this lead him on the wrong path on several occasions.
At times I didn't like Reed with his stupid mistakes and how he continuously went back to drinking and partying. Yet he was filled with emotions that tormented him everyday and he just couldn't find a way to get them out.
Nolan is what every girl should act like. Sure she has insecurities and wants to give up, but who doesn't? She's like an actual person with feelings and doubts. Nolan had real worries about college and her grades, but she never let the things going on in her life impact her future in a negative way. She was always true to herself, never giving in to peer pressure and standing up for herself and her friends. She was always there for her friends whenever they needed help. Nolan was even there for people who hated her. No one I know would ever do that for an enemy.
The characters aren't perfect. They all have their flaws, but the flaws are what makes someone who they really are. I loved this book and I would definitely read it again.
Be prepared for feels when you read this book. You might even want a box of tissues next to you the whole time. And be prepared to root on Nolan, no matter what.

Review on The Principles of Love

Does anyone out there hate their name? Did somebody have hippie parents or named them Rainbow or something? Naming is a big thing. It can impact a child for years. You need to consider if your kid would get made fun of for their name and if there are any cute nicknames with the name. Also, the two people in the couple must agree on the name. And then you have to decide on the middle name. You want to know why I'm talking about names? Well, I just read a book about a girl with the name of Love. Yep, her name is Love. It's not short for anything and there's no nickname. Just Love. And you would think she'd at least have an exotic or awesome last name to make up for it. Yeah, not really. Love Bukowski is her name and this is the review on her story.

Friends are hard to come by, and the only guys who come near her front door are the ones she wants to swat away. Not that there's a shortage of Hadley hotties; it's just that the one Love's singled out is an utterly incredible and totally unattainable senior. Now, Love will have to figure out the true meaning of her name to make her reality as awesome as her fantasies.

My recommendation: Anyone who likes contemporary novels that involve boarding schools.

I found the title of this book to be humorous. First off, it involves both the principles of love and the principles of Love, the person. Also, principles. Her father is a principal at Love's new school, the school where everything happens. Coincidence? Probably.
Love just moved to a new school where her father is the principal. This means kids thinking that Love is being treated special, harassment from other students, and Love having to act like a perfect student to protect her image as principal's daughter. But high school is never easy. Love finds herself in a kind of love square, maybe even a love pentagon. She likes a guy named Robinson who is dating Love's new friend Lila. Love also can't stop thinking about Quiet Jacob who appreciates music just like she does. Also, she's constantly e-mailing this guy at her school and she doesn't even know who he is. Talk about complicated!
As well as dealing with boys and jealousy, Love has to grow up. The important adults in her life are discovering love and she needs to learn that people move on.
This book read to me as immature. All the parentheses and side notes annoyed me and the way that Love thought sometimes reminded of a middle schooler. The book actually surprised me whenever Love or someone else cursed because I was not expecting it. I thought of Love as being an innocent girl who then suddenly drops the f-bomb.
I had serious problems with the father. He doesn't tell Love anything about her mother. He just talks about how the past is in the past and Love just forgets about it. Who just asks about the mother she's never known, gets told nothing, and forgets the whole thing? The book never gets into anything more about the mother so I really hope Love actually develops some curiosity and wants to know about her mother.
The father also only cared about the school's image. He didn't want the faculty to think that Love is some spoiled partier whose father bails her out all the time. He grounds her over little things and yells at her for getting caught in the boy's dorm. But then he doesn't care when Love leaves for the weekend with her boyfriend to New York. I mean, who knows what could've happened to Love there?
And all the problems seemed simple and mundane. Nothing really struck me as interesting in this book and it kind of bored me. I mean, the plot kept me going and the music references, while being too numerous for my liking, kept my interest in the book, but everything else had no emotion in it. The big reveal on who Love's e-mail pal, DrakeFan, is very predictable and I saw it coming long before it finally came out.
The main purpose of this book is to talk about growing up and making your own decisions. But of course the book leaves off at a cliffhanger with a big decision Love has to make.
This book was okay to me. It was kinda boring at some points, interesting in others, but it didn't stick with me, except for her name. Ironically, she's never made fun of for her name which I totally didn't expect.
